Because It's More Than A Job

Meet Luisita McBurney

Luisita McBurney is a dedicated public servant, community leader, and proud immigrant who has spent over two decades serving Iowans.

Originally from the Philippines, Luisita immigrated to the United States in 2002 in pursuit of greater opportunity. She began her career with the State of Iowa in 2006, where she has built a reputation for accuracy, accountability, and improving how government serves people.

Her commitment to community is just as strong. In 2004, Luisita began volunteering with Monsoon Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity, later serving as Co-Chair. In 2013, she founded the Filipino American Society, growing it into the largest Filipino American organization in Iowa and a hub for cultural celebration and civic engagement.

Luisita has served in numerous leadership roles, including Treasurer of the Iowa Unity Coalition, former board member of On With Life and the St. Charles Community Foundation, and former Public Relations Officer for the National Federation of Filipino American Associations. She is also a graduate of the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Community Leadership Program. Her leadership and service have earned national recognition, including the Chicago Filipino Asian American Hall of Fame Award for Community Service and Public Service Leadership, the Gintong Pamana National Prism Award for Women of Style & Achievement, and the Global 1nspiration WOW Award as an Inspirational and Dynamic Community Leader.

Luisita is a Certified Public Manager through Drake University. She and her husband, Larry, live in Urbandale with their two Maltese dogs, and together they have three children. Her husband currently serves as State Representative for House District 44.

With a strong background in public service and a proven record of community leadership, Luisita is running for Polk County Recorder to bring experience, integrity, and a commitment to delivering faster, smarter, and simpler service to every resident of Polk County.

What the County Recorder Does

The Polk County Recorder protects property rights and maintains the official records that matter most—like deeds, mortgages, and vital records including birth, death, and marriage certificates.

This office also plays a key role in our local economy. When records are processed quickly and accurately, families can close on homes faster—because if the Recorder’s office is slow, the housing market slows down too.

Just as importantly, this office serves as a front line defense against property fraud, ensuring ownership records are accurate, secure, and protected.
